Dr. William E. Maitland

D r. William E. Maitland is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Medicine as a result of 45 Years of Excellence. Dr. Maitland is a Medical Practitioner and Director of the Pomona Pain Clinic located in Queensland, Australia.

Dr. Maitland began his career in 1974 with the establishment of his own general practice. In 1982 he sold his practice to continue to work as the Director of The Accident and ER Department in the Outpatient Area  of Townsville  General Hospital. After four years in this position, he decided to go back to General Practice until his semi-retirement in 2000. It is at this point in his career that he decided to follow his true passion, Pain Management.

Following his semi-retirement, Dr. Maitland decided to work mainly in the field of Pain Management as a result  of  an  experience  he  had that always remained with him.

Years earlier when he had treated a soldier, he realized he could help with the pain by using injections.

He  knew  that  he  couldn’t  cure him but that he could help ease the pain. Dr. Maitland states, “I was in the army working at the army  hospital  in  Brisbane  Queensland Australia. A visiting doctor told me he was going to treat a soldier who had a painful lower back. He told me he was going to administer a trigger point injection into the point that had been damaged and that was causing the soldier’s pain.

After the injection, the soldier stood up and most of his pain had gone. I filed this information away and never forgot what I had seen. I started to try to use this technique to relieve musculoskeletal pain when I started working in private practice. Gradually my knowledge grew until today I have a good knowledge of the whole body and how to relieve most musculoskeletal pain.”

As  time  went  on,  he  repeatedly  thought  about  the soldier and was motivated to help others with their pain.

Looking to pursue this skill, Dr. Maitland traveled to Houston University where he worked with Dr. Luther Lindner. During his time working with Dr. Lindner, he became educated on how to treat Chronic Back Pain. Dr. Maitland absorbed all of the information he was taught and continues to use these methods to this day. In his current role, Dr. Maitland treats up to 35 patients a day and has a 95% success rate in the treatment and healing of musculoskeletal problems. Word has gotten around about the effectiveness of Dr. Maitland’s practice and as a result, patients often travel from several hundred miles away just to see him at his clinic. He treats his patients through the use of trigger point injections.

When these injections are placed in the precise location, the result is long term relief.

In working with patients, he began to notice that those with chronic back pain responded to treatment in the same manner. After that realization, it was easy to treat his patients. His work stands out in that many specialists have looked at the spine but Dr. Maitland has discovered that the pain has nothing to do with the spine. Spinal conditions are a totally separate area of practice and in thirteen years of specializing in pain management, he has only seen forty one spinal conditions that he went on to refer to a specialist.

At this point in his career, he has not found a single doctor who knows how to do what he does on a daily basis. A  few  doctors  have  some  of  the  knowledge, but  none  have  all  of  the  knowledge  possessed  by Dr. Maitland. In addition to Pain Management, Dr.Maitland also assists smokers to quit through the use of acupuncture.  He  takes  pride  in  learning  from  his patients by listening to each person and assessing their individual needs. Throughout his educational career, Dr. Maitland earned

his M.B.,B.S. Degree from the University of Queensland and also holds certifications including, Dip.Aust.C.O.G., and D.Obst.R.C.O.G. He started Medical School in Queensland in 1967 where he worked driving taxis at night and during his long holidays to pay for school. Later, Dr. Maitland would take an army scholarship and travel to New Guinea.

Prior to beginning his secondary education, he faced many hardships on the road to becoming a Doctor. As a child, Dr. Maitland idolized Dr. Deverough, a neighborhood  physician.  He  immediately  knew  that  he wanted to grow up to be just like his hero, however, he lived in a state in Australia where there was no Head of Medicine at the University. He was forced to begin college in an Engineering Program where he continued to write to schools all across Australia. He finally heard back  from  the  University  of  Queensland  and  was  accepted into the Medical Program.

As a result of his vast expertise and knowledge, Dr. Maitland has authored the book, Banish Your Back

Pain Treatment of Musculoskeletal Pain Made Easy. The  information  outlined  in  this  publication  is  not known by the medical profession so Dr. Maitland has written a book outlining in great detail his methods of diagnosis and treatment. The book aims to help those who suffer with chronic back pain to lead normal and healthy lives.

In his spare time, Dr. Maitland enjoys Golf, Watercolor Painting, Gardening, Reading, Working Out and Staying Fit.  Health  and  Fitness  is  something  that  is  very  important to Dr. Maitland as he previously ran Marathons and Triathalons until he was 60 years old. Looking ahead, Dr. Maitland hopes to write one or two more books and never retire.

“Thank you for giving me my life back...”

“In August 2007 when I was at the end of my tether Bill’s (Dr. Bill Maitland) name was given to me by a patient of his who he had helped tremendously. I was very sceptical, especially as I had had four  operations on my back which did not relieve the pain I was in, forcing me to have to retire from work.

After a few treatments, the relief was extraordinary and have progressed to a point where I have my life back.

Without Bill’s treatment and care my life would  have deteriorated to a bad state and I have now  recommended him to several of our friends who  have had similar results.  For twenty years I have had this problem. Now I can look forward to a new social and healthy life, as I can now play bowls whereas before could not participate in anything due to the problems which I was having.  All I can say is “thank you for giving me my life back” and would recommend him to anyone who has similar problems.”

— Anthony (Tony) Ferguson

“I have been in pain for a number of years, but over the last two years it escalated to the point that I could not walk without extreme pain, stand to cook, or hang the laundry, and doing housework of any kind was out of the question. Just to get out of bed was excruciating.

The specialist at the hospital booked me in for surgery on my spine to remove a disk, part of the vertebra, and insert a metal cage. This operation was to alleviate the pain, cramp and numbness in my leg but would not stop my back pain. I was desperate, so was willing to undergo this procedure. However, my sister, who had seen Dr. Maitland for a back injury, made me an appointment to see him, as she had excellent results. It was the best thing I have ever done. After several treatments, I am now pain-free and no longer need to use my walking stick or a wheel chair at the shopping centre. I am able to walk properly and to stand erect, and I absolutely feel like a new woman. Not only did Dr. Maitland stop the pain in my leg but in my back, also. I am very grateful, and would recommend him to everyone who is suffering from chronic pain.”
