Carrianne Floss

Carrianne Floss is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in recognition of her contributions to the Science Education field. Floss’ professional title is Program Coordinator at The Citizen Science Lab, which specializes in educational workshops.

She has worked in this capacity for the past year and brings expertise in curriculum development, community outreach, inventory, lab management, program development, research and volunteer management, to her role. “The Citizen Science Lab is open to everyone — from middle and high school students, to parents and educators, to undergraduate and graduate students, to professionals and DIY scientists,” the facility’s website states. “We invite the citizens of Pittsburgh to observe, experiment and analyze through discovery-based learning and STEAM education.

Our goal is to engage and promote the limitless opportunities that the life sciences offer to the betterment of our community.” “We expose residents in the Hill District and surrounding neighborhoods to fundamental laboratory experimentation in order to spark interest in STEM and STEAM professions,” the website continues. “Designed to accommodate a variety of skill levels and interests, up to 16 visitors can conduct experiments under the guidance of professional scientists. Offering a wide array of programming, visitors get the chance to explore the life sciences through highly interactive, hands-on experiences. Floss earned both her Bachelor of Science degree and her Master of Education degree in Biology from Duquesne University.

While she was studying for her Master’s degree, she traveled to Ireland to teach biology. To further her professional development, she is a member of the National Association of Professional Women, and cites Dr. Andre Samuel as her professional mentor. “I enjoy my time doing lab work just as much as I do teaching,” Floss said. When not working, Floss serves as a volunteer firefighter and enjoys traveling. She dedicates this recognition to her mother, Mary Floss, and thanks her for her love and support.
