Gertrude B. Hutchinson

Gertrude B. Hutchinson, DNS, RN, MA, MSIS, CCRN-R is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as Professional Nurse of the Year.

With nearly 45 years of experience in the field of Nursing under her belt, Gertrude B. Hutchinson is commended for her outstanding contributions to the medical profession. An illustrious expert that has gained expertise in all facets of nursing, Dr. Hutchinson attributes her longstanding success to her inquisitive nature and yearning to want to help people. Dr. Hutchinson is a firm believer that “education opportunities and having gifts and abilities to leave the world a better place,” is a key reason as to why she has experienced triumph along the way.

Certified as a Critical Care Nurse by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, throughout the course of her education and training, Dr. Hutchinson earned her Nursing Diploma from the United Hospital School of Nursing in 1971. Thereafter, Dr. Hutchinson went on to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from California State University San Bernardino in 2005 and a Master of Arts degree in History from the State University of New York at Albany in 2007. Upon attending the State University of New York at Albany, Dr. Hutchinson earned her MSIS in NARA and Records Management degree in 2009. Dr. Hutchinson would go on to obtain her Doctor of Nursing Science Degree with a focus in Leadership and Education from The Sage Colleges – Sage Graduate School in 2016

To further enhance her professional development, Dr. Hutchinson is a distinguished fellow of several elite organizations and honor societies, including: the American Nurses Association; the New York Chapter ANA-NY; the International Nurses Association; Sigma Theta Tau International – Delta Pi Chapter; the New York Archives Conference; the American Association for the History of Nursing (Board-appointed Archivist); the Interagency Council of Information Resources in Nursing; the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society; the New York Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders; Northeast Division NYONEL; the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society; the American Association for the History of Medicine; Women in Development in Northeastern New York; Capital Nursing Research Alliance (currently Vice President); the Nurses Educational Fund; National League for Nurses; and NLN-NY. In her previous capacity, Dr. Hutchinson has served as a Board Member of the Capital District Alliance for Unified Healthcare

In recognition of her professional accolades, Dr. Hutchinson is the recipient of the Northeastern Region NYONEL Leadership Award in recognition of “creative and contemporary leadership in nursing practice.”

When not working, Dr. Hutchinson volunteers at the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church and serves in many leadership capacities as a life-member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also enjoys nursing history, nursing theory, colonial history, oral history, vocal music, piano, organ, knitting, crocheting, reading and writing.

Dr. Hutchinson is happily married and enjoys spending time with family. She dedicates this recognition in loving memory of her parents, Lucien and Flora V. Buck.
