Penny Martin, Ph.D., is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Healthcare. Penny is
the Principal at Healthful Design, LLC.
At various types of facilities, but particularly in healthcare facilities, Healthful Design provides evidence-based, custom wayfinding and imagery installations to create a calming, welcoming atmosphere. For example, while navigating hallways to reach a physician’s office and while waiting in that office, a patient will be exposed to many visual cues. By using carefully selected images and expertly composed wayfinding elements as a part of that set of cues, Healthful Design aims to positively affect individuals psychologically and physiologically to reduce anxiety and increase satisfaction.
With her dual expertise in healthcare and design, Penny works with the neuroscience behind human reaction to color, pattern, and composition of imagery to create signage, recognition elements, and imagery series that improve the user’s experience in any given setting. As the culmination of her education and training, Penny graduated from the University of Rochester with a Ph.D. in Health Practice Research. Penny is a member of the Nurse Practitioner Association (NPA), the Center for Health Design (CHD), the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD), and has supported the Children’s Miracle Network. Besides her enthusiasm for evidence-based design, Penny enjoys photography, traveling, and gardening. To learn more, please visit www.healthfuldesign.com.
