Continental Who’s Who recognizes Barbara Pettit Richard as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in the Education field. As Assistant
Principal of the Porter Academy, Richard brings over 25 years of educational experience to her position. She has spent 12 of those years at the Porter Academy, with 4 years in administration. “I am a child at advocate at all times in all aspects of my life,” Richard said.
Richard’s job duties include student admissions, monitoring discipline, faculty hiring, training, guidance, monitoring, curriculums, and testing, as well as serving as the school’s parent liaison. According to its website, “Porter Academy is dedicated to the education of students Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade who have not been successful in a traditional classroom setting.” Their “students are wonderful people with incredible potential, but they need a different environment, different teaching strategies and/or to have foundational gaps filled to enable success.” Additionally, Porter Academy “value[s] the individuality of each child and works to figure out the most effective strategies to help each child be successful academically, socialemotionally and developmentally.”
Richard earned her Master of Science degree in Educational Administration and Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Scranton, and her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Teaching from St. Michael’s College. She is certified for Elementary Teaching in grades K-6 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and holds an Administrative Certificate from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. To further her professional development, Richard holds membership to the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and Women of Distinction.
