Daba Gedafa, PhD, PE, ENV, SP Grand

DabaGedafa, Ph.D., P.E., ENV, SP, is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in the field of Engineering. With ABET accreditation and online distance engineering, the University of North Dakota offers “a high quality curriculum and affordable tuition.” Dr. Gedafa serves as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of North Dakota, where he has been employed for the past five years.

Prior to joining the faculty at the University of North Dakota, he served as an Assistant Professor in Residence at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Gedafa’s areas of expertise include civil and transportation engineering, pavement and materials research and instruction. “Civil engineering is the building blocks of civilization,” Dr. Gedafa said. “We are serving humanity by improving the quality of life. We are also reducing fuel costs and travel time.” Throughout the course of his education, Dr. Gedafa earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University. Earlier in his educational career, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Addis Ababa University. He went on to earn his Master of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology – Bombay.

 

To further his professional development, Dr. Gedafa is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; the GeoInstitute of ASCE; the International Society of Asphalt Pavements; the International society of Concrete Pavements and the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologies. He is also the Vice President of the ASCE North Dakota Section and serves on various committees for the Transportation Research Board. Dr. Gedafa earned several honors over the course of his career, including the 2014 Dean’s Outstanding Faculty Award and the Faculty Star (as voted by Presidential Scholarship Recipients). He was also featured in several editions of Who’s Who in America and prides himself on his hard work and dedication. “You can have talent, but that’s not enough,” Dr. Gedafa said of his philosophy.
