Edwin H. Smith, Jr., RN, MSN

Edwin H. Smith, Jr., R.N., M.S.N., is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in the field of Nursing. The University of Texas Medical Branch is a healthcare facility that offers their patients the quality care that they deserve. They seek out in the best interest of their patients by providing them with the resources needed to promote their health and wellness. As the Nurse Manager overseeing the Emergency Department and a Medical-Surgical Floor at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Smith’s area of expertise lies within the overseeing of the emergency and surgical departments.

A Nurse Clinician, Smith is responsible for supervising a staff of anywhere from 16 to 20 nurses, techs and unit clerks. “I have been in healthcare since 1993, starting out as a hospital corpsman and then I came back to Galveston and worked as a paramedic,” Smith said. “I ultimately ended up as a Registered Nurse in 2005. I enjoy working in the emergency department, as well as critical care.” Prior to joining the team at UTMB, Smith worked as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Christus St. Johns. “I have worked in a Level 1 Trauma center and left in 2012 to pursue the R.N.-B.S.N. track,” Smith said.

 

“I performed emergency nursing care and served as a relief charge nurse during my time at Christus.” Throughout the course of his education, Smith earned his Associate’s degree in Nursing from Galveston College where he went on to attain his license as a Registered Nurse. A Certified Emergency Nurse, Smith then earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing as well as his Master of Science degree in Executive Nurse Leadership, both from UTMB.
