Michael D. Brown is recognized by Continental Who’s Who among Legal Professionals for his 43 Years of Excellence in the field of Law in recognition of his role as Founding Partner of Ohrenstein& Brown, LLP. Brown has served 33 years in his current position, and serves as the Head of Litigation and Insurance Regulatory Practice for his law firm. Additionally, he has over 45 years of total career experience under his belt, and has previously worked at smaller law firms, as well as for the State of New York’s Criminal Justice System. He is also frequent lecturer for many organizations, and has spoken on a variety of topics including litigation management techniques, insurance coverage issues, the defense of a variety of professional liability, and has designed insurance programs.
Throughout his career, Brown has frequently been called upon to litigate significant and unusual cases in many different places across the United States. According to his law firm’s website, “Mike represented a large satellite operator in a “life insurance” claim when several satellites suffered “shortened lives” due to manufacturing and design defects. When an insurer and one of the nation’s largest banks had a dispute over the meaning of a unique insurance policy involving hundreds of millions of dollars, Mike was asked to defend the insurer in North Carolina. Mike has also represented major hospitals in disputes with HMOs and is also an experienced commercial and employment practice litigator.” In order to further his professional development, Brown maintains affiliations and memberships with many prestigious organizations both professionally, and personally.
He is a member of the New York County Lawyer’s Association, the New York Bar Association, and a Chairman of the Subcommittee on Insurance Demutualization of the New York City Bar Association, as well as on the board of director of several publicly owned companies. Additionally, he serves as a Co-Chair of the Nassau County Museum of Art, and supports the American Heart Association as well as supporting the cause of Children’s Diabetes. Throughout the course of his education and training, Brown obtained his BA in Government and History from Beloit University in 1967. Soon after, he went on to earn his JD from NYU School of Law in 1970. He has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in his field by Martindale-Hubbard. Furthermore, U.S. News & World Report has named Ohrenstein& Brown, LLP as one of New York’s “Best Law Firms” and singled out Ohrenstein& Brown, LLP’s insurance practice as the ONLY Tier 1 insurance practice on Long Island. The law firm also obtained a declaratory judgment from the District Court in Montana. Outside of work, Brown is an avid golfer who also plays tennis, and is a fan of the New York Mets, and the New York Jets. He also enjoys reading, especially history.
His favorite publication is Forbes magazine, and his favorite places to vacation include Boca Raton, Florida, and Florence, Italy.
