Joseph D. Duffey is an academic advisor with Sylvan Learning Inc, also known as a counselor who works with students usually at the college level. He is responsible for mentoring and helping students choose a major and a minor while ensuring that they meet all the requirements to graduate with a major in that field.
Before becoming a pillar in education, Joseph D. Duffey served as Chairman of the National Endowment of the Humanities from 1987-1981 and garnered additional experience as an educator with Yale University, Harvard University’s JFK School of Government, and the Center for Urban Studies and Hartford Seminary.
Previously he worked as the President of the University of Massachusetts from 1990-1991, President of American University from 1992-1993, the director of the US Information Agency from 1993-1998, and chancellor of the University of Mass Amherst for nearly a decade.
A recipient of honorary doctorates from Ritsuimaneu University, Monmouth College, Dickenson College, Gonzaga University, Centre College and the City University of NY. Joseph D. Duffey garnered his education from Marshall University earning Bachelor of Arts in 1954, and a Bachelor of Divinity from Andover Newton theological school in 1957, completing his education at Yale University, with a Master of Sacred Theology in 1959, and a Ph.D. from Hartford Seminary.
