Jeffrey H. Marcus

Jeffrey H. Marcus is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Environmental Consulting.

Leading an impressive career for over thirty-two years, Dr. Marcus has amassed expertise in the areas of smart-sciences, sea level rise, shore line resilience, wetlands restoration, marine and freshwater ecology, endangered species impact assessments, environmental regulations, and preparation of environmental assessments. In recent years, he has been focusing on how rising sea levels impact coastal tropical ecosystems, designing living shorelines to be more resilient to rising sea levels and salinity regimes.

Devoted to environmental protection, Dr. Marcus has had extensive experience in subtropical and tropical habitats. He has focused a great deal of attention to the environmental impact caused by transportation, serving for the Florida Department of Transportation for decades. Some of his projects included the development of NEPA documents such as AN’s, CSER’s, air & noise studies, wetland reports, re-evaluations and the development of mitigation and restoration projects for mangroves and the Boca Chica Lagoon. He last served as regional environmental manager at Miller Legg, previously holding prestigious titles such as senior vice president, principal, and vice president.

An educator, he taught students at community colleges and the University of Miami, College of Engineering.

An academic scholar, Dr. Marcus attended the University of Colorado for a Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, transitioning to England where he earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in freshwater ecology from Lancaster University. He then researched corals, mangroves, and sea grasses at Florida International University.

A frontrunner in his field, Dr. Marcus is a member of the Freshwater Biological Association (FBA), South Florida Chapter of the Explorers Club, and South Florida Association of Environmental Professionals (SFAEP).

A published author, Dr. Marcus has written on the impacts of oil and dispersants on mangroves, corals, and seagrasses. An expert in his field, he is an invited speaker to many conferences internationally, including at the International Conference on Ecology and Transportation (ICOET).

Dr. Marcus has led diving expeditions throughout the globe. He is thankful for his mentors Dr. Tifi Machon and Dr. David Sutcliffe.
