Steven J. Schneider, MD

Steven J. Schneider, MD, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Neurosurgery as a Pediatric Neurosurgeon at Northwell.

Located at 410 Lakeville Road, Suite 2014, Long Island Neurological Associates renders excellent neurological services. Specialties include, but are not limited to, congenital disorders, brain injury, brain tumors, epilepsy surgery, craniofacial surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and skull base surgery. In addition to his role at the practice, he serves as co-chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. A part of Northwell Health System, the center provides outstanding pediatric care for kids and young adults ages one week and older. They have extensive specialties, including neurosurgery, neurology, intensive care, and emergency medicine.

Board-certified neurosurgeon and pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Schneider treats not only the child but the family. He has become a patient-preferred neurosurgeon in New York on account of having more than two decades of experience in the medical field. His areas of expertise include pediatric neurosurgery, the management of pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors, pituitary tumors, epilepsy, spasticity, craniosynostosis, hydrocephalus, spinal dysraphism, arachnoid cysts, and traumatic brain injury.

Passionate about knowledge, Dr. Schneider loves his field because it is ever changing and evolving. As the first pediatric neurosurgeon on Long Island, he had to overcome preexisting treatment paradigms and has since become highly successful. He advises new surgeons to never give up and follow their dreams. His greatest inspiration is Dr. Fred Epstein, the pediatric neurosurgeon who developed neurosurgical techniques for treating children with brain and spine-cord tumors.

An academic scholar, Dr. Schneider attended one of the top thirty medical schools in the U.S., Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). He earned a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) with high honors, graduating first in his class. He remained at the college for a residency in neurosurgery, transitioning to New York University (NYU) for a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery.

A highly respected voice in his areas of expertise, Dr. Schneider is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), Joint Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery, American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons (ASPN), and International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons (ISPN). He serves as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). He remains active throughout multiple societies and organizations, participating in clinical research and serving on the advisory council of several foundations. A pillar in the pediatric neurosurgeon community, he serves as ad hoc editor for multiple scientific journals.

Outside of work, Dr. Schneider enjoys fishing, skiing, scuba diving (Dive Master), and traveling to the Indian Ocean, Maldives, and Hawaii. He is proud of his son who is currently completing a neurosurgery residency at Northwell.

Dr. Schneider dedicates this recognition in loving memory of his parents Richard and Jeanette Schneider.
