Iris Hernandez, BSN, MSN


Iris Hernandez, BSN, MSN, is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Nurse for her role as the Director of Patient Safety at the VA Medical Center.

As one of the leading modern healthcare facilities in the Baltimore area, the VA Medical Center has state-of-the-art technology, pioneering research, and the world’s first filmless radiology department. Ms. Hernandez has been serving at the center for nearly thirty years, having worked previously as a PI Nurse Program Manager.

An acclaimed nurse, Ms. Hernandez’s areas of expertise includes geriatric nursing and nursing administration. In addition to her role as a nurse, she served as a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel.

To prepare for her career, Ms. Hernandez earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing and a Master of Science in nursing administration and education from the University of Puerto Rico.

A frontrunner in her field, Ms. Hernandez remains aware of the latest developments by maintaining affiliations with the American Nurses Association, Maryland Nurses Association, National Association of Hispanic Nurses, and National Association of Professional Women. She is an active member of her community, donating to Hope Charity and the ALS Association.

Outside of her professional life, Ms. Hernandez enjoys crocheting, reading, going to church, going to the movies, helping her community, and spending time with family. She has two daughters Zobeida and Jessica, and five grandchildren.

Ms. Hernandez dedicates this recognition in loving memory of her mother Dolores Rodriguez.
