Shannon Mitchel, MD

Shannon Mitchel, MD, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Wound Care Physician in the field of Medicine and acknowledgment of her role as a General Practitioner with Nova Medical Centers and CEO of Mitchel Wound Care Consulting.

Established 25 years ago, Nova Medical Centers began as a single facility in Conroe, Texas committed to treating patients suffering from musculoskeletal injuries. Striving to transform the occupational healthcare industry, Nova is currently operating more than 50 occupational medicine facilities across Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Indian. The dedicated medical professionals and staff take pride in treating more than 40,000 injuries each year and seeing more than 600,000 patient visits in 12 months.

Board-certified wound care physician, Dr. Mitchel has garnered over two decades in the practice of wound care and physical therapy. Currently, for more than two years, she has been serving as a Medical Director at Nova Medical Centers, dedicated to providing the highest level of healthcare and services in occupational medicine for injured workers. In addition, Dr. Mitchel is also the CEO of Mitchel Wound Care Consulting where she remains active in wound consulting teaching nurses and therapists how to perform wound care in the home setting. She is also an expert witness.

Throughout her acclaimed career, Dr. Mitchel has thrived in her previous positions. In 2012, she joined Accelecare (now Healogics) and became their first wound care physician in Portland, Oregon. She became involved in clinical education within the corporation, serving as a mentor to new physicians joining the practice. She was also on the adjunct faculty within the Department of Clinical Education of Texas Woman’s University. In September of 2016, she joined the WoundCentrics team as Medical Director for Cornerstone Hospital in Round Rock, Texas.

An academic scholar, Dr. Mitchel is a 2007 graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Upon receiving her medical degree, she went on to complete her residency in general surgery at Methodist Hospital in Houston. She also holds a Master of Science (MS) degree in Physical Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. Furthering her training, Dr. Mitchel continues to take extensive training classes. She holds a physical therapy license.

Remaining abreast of the latest industry developments, Dr. Mitchel is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, the American College of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair, and the Columbia Wound Care Consortium.

In light of her achievements, Dr. Mitchel is a recipient of the NIH Grant Orthopedic Surgery Award and has been named as a High Performer of Texas Workers Compensation.

In her spare time, Dr. Mitchel is a competitive ballroom dancer. She also remains active on the board of directors with the World Reach Foundation.
