John D. Leimert, MD, FAAP is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Distinguished Leader for his outstanding contributions in the field of Medicine and acknowledgment of his prominent role as Chief of Pediatrics Division at St. Joseph’s Health Services of Rhode Island.
An integral part of CharterCARE Health Partners system, the St. Joseph Health Center’s main location is at 21 Peace Street in Providence with a satellite location in Pawtucket at 249 Roosevelt Avenue and a dental-only satellite in Johnston at 1524 Atwood Avenue, Suite #125. With nearly 100,000 visits each year, the dedicated medical professionals provide quality comprehensive care to children, adults, and families through a wide network of primary care and specialty clinics.
Board-certified Pediatrician Dr. Leimert has garnered 40 years of vast knowledge and professional experience specializing in General Pediatrics and Pulmonary Diseases. In his current position at the St. Joseph Health Center, he is committed to providing the highest standard of pediatric care to patients and the underserved pediatric population. In addition to his appointment at St. Joseph’s, he also serves as a Professor at Tufts University, School of Medicine where he is proud to teach residents and physicians assistants. Compassionate in nature, Dr. Leimert continuously demonstrates the highest standard of excellence when also providing medical consultation to the St. Joseph Lead Center and the Home Asthma Education.
An academic scholar, Dr. Leimert completed his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Duke University. Soon thereafter, he obtained his Medical Degree from Tulane School of Medicine. Following this, Dr. Leimert completed his Pediatric Residency serving for one year as Chief Resident at the Yale-New Haven School of Medicine and his Fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonary and Critical Care at Rhode Island Hospital
To further his professional development, Dr. Leimert continues to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in pediatric medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics. He is an active member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society.
An active member of his community, Dr. Leimert has made charitable contributions as the Medical Director at Dartmouth Baby Clinic and a YMCA Camp Director. Additionally, Dr. Leimert is a Supporter of Mayhew for underprivileged boys and is a consultant to several local daycares.
In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Leimert has received many noteworthy awards such as The Outstanding Clinical Teacher Award from Tufts University and The Outstanding Ped Award from Fall River Herald in 2001.
In his spare time, Dr. Leimert is a Black belt in Tang Soo Do. He enjoys hiking as well as kayaking.
