Garland Higgins is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a 2014 Pinnacle Professional of the Year in the field of Higher Education.
Garland is the Director of Alumni Relations at Kentucky State University. Established in the late 1800s as a small school for the training of black teachers for the black schools of Kentucky, Kentucky State University has expanded and evolved into a liberal arts institution to educate and prepare their students for their futures as well rounded citizens, lifelong learners, and problem solvers in an ever-changing, fast-paced global society. With over fourteen years of professional experience, Garland’s areas of concentration include higher education, alumni programs and relations, development, accounting, logistics, membership dues, and scholarships. Before seeking his position at the university, Garland was an active member of the US Army and National Guard for thirty three years.
Throughout the course of his illustrious career, Garland was the recipient of the Kentucky Colonel Award as well as numerous certificate of appreciation awards. He maintains affiliation with the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, and hopes to attain his Doctorate Degree in the near future. Garland earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Accounting from Portsmouth Interstate Business College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Kentucky State University, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management Information Systems from Kentucky State University.
