Karen R. Weikel

Karen R. Weikel is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Law Enforcement as a result of her role as Crime Scene Investigator with the Broken Arrow Police Department. The Broken Arrow Police Department provides effective, efficient and ethical police services through the management of allocated human and physical resources.

Together, their team of 130 police officers and 57 civilian personnel strive to provide for and protect their city. Following a sixteen year career as a police officer, Weikel changed gears to become a crime scene investigator three years ago. Presently, she works in the areas of crime scene investigation, criminal investigations, crime scene photography, evidence collection and much more. When asked to give advice for young professionals, Weikel states: “Do not just rely on the training your agency provides for you, learn on your own by reading books related to the field and articles about the changes in the field of work.”

A lesson Weikel has learned throughout the course of her career is that no matter what, always tell the truth. She says: “Even if it what you did resulted in a major mistake, it is always better to tell the truth because your integrity and professional reputation are a vital part of who you are and when those are tarnished you have lost your greatest value.“ In looking back on her career, Weikel would like to be remembered as an officer who has honored the five pillars of Law Enforcement which are Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Compassion, and Courage.

A Certified Crime Scene Investigator through the International Association for Identification (IAI), Karen maintains affiliation with the Oklahoma chapter of IAI, ASCR and NAPW. In addition to her investigative position, Karen is also an instructor at the Broken Arrow Police Academy. Throughout the course of her studies, Weikel received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University. Outside of work, she enjoys scuba diving, painting, reading and riding her motorcycle. For more information, please visit www.brokenarrowok.gov.
