Melissa A. Nielsen, LMSW, is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in the Nursing field. “A&T Healthcare has been servicing the community for over 30 years,” the facility’s website states. “One of the most valued services to our consumers has been our Home Health Aides and Personal Care Aides. A&T Healthcare has been approved by New York State to provide classes that train and certify both Home Health Aides and Personal Care Aides.” Nielsen’s professional title is Service Coordinator at A & T Healthcare, LLC. She has worked in this position for the past year and brings over 25 years of field experience, as well as expertise in social services, community outreach, program development, public speaking, mental health, crisis intervention, grant writing, volunteer management, research, event planning, family therapy and psychology, to her role. Additionally, the company offers from newborns to the elderly.
The website states, “It is a welcome alternative to long hospital confinement or nursing homes. When an individual receives care from A & T in the home setting they are able to have privacy, independence and retain control over their lives while receiving high quality health care.” Prior to joining the team at A & T Healthcare, Nielsen served as a Medical Social Work Assistant for the County of Rockland for over 22 years. She developed skills in the areas of post-hospitalization assessment and home care aides.
In her current role, Nielsen is responsible for acting as a liaison between patients and other hospital staff, as well as providing one-on-one guidance and support for patients. She has also developed her professional expertise and is now a specialist in Dementia, Crisis Management and Discharge. “I am known for my compassion as a social worker,” Nielsen said. “I feel the need to help others as much as I can.” Nielsen attended Franciscan High School in Mohegan Lake, New York.
She went on to study Social Work at both Dominican College and Adelphi University, where she earned her Master’s degree in Social Work in 2011. To further her professional development, Nielsen is a part of the Rockland County Crisis Team and the International Women’s Association, which awarded her the Recognition of Achievement Award.
