Rebecca L. Callaway is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional of the Year in the field of Nursing. Callaway serves as a Registered Nurse and Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator at McAllen Medical Center. She has spent four years in her current position, and brings 17 years of total career experience, as well as expertise in performance improvement, quality assurance, patient care, trauma and critical care.
“McAllen Medical Center is a 441-bed hospital that is the only designated advanced Level III Trauma Center for Hidalgo County, and its NICU remains the region’s only neonatal surgical center,” the hospital’s website states. “The hospital is a certified Primary Stroke Center, works with the federal Veterans Administration to provide services to area veterans, and has a family medicine residency program. Services provided at the hospital include advanced wound care, maternity care, neurosurgery and orthopedics.” “I collaborate with the healthcare disciplinary team to provide appropriate and timely patient centered care to traumatically injured patients,” Callaway said. “I attribute my success to the experienced nurses and healthcare workers who have participated in my career, helping me to become well-rounded, balanced and pliable in my workplace.”
Callaway earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2000. She then went on to complete her Master of Science degree in Nursing, with a Concentration in Leadership and Management, in 2016. To further her professional development, Callaway is a member of the International Nurses Association. She also serves as a Trauma Nursing Core Course Provider. In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the field, Callaway has been named a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, and has been published in Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare. When not working, Callaway enjoys fishing, baking, reading and spending time with her family – including her husband, Chris; and her two children. Callaway dedicates this recognition to her mentor, Candi Constantine-Castillo, CNO; and her mother, Gayle Haynez, for all of their love and support.
