Dr. Jeffrey S. Borer MD is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Lifetime Achiever in the field of medicine as a Professor of Medicine at the State University of New YorkDownstate College of Medicine and Public Health.
Dr. Borer has served in his profession for over 40 years, and has served in his current position for over ten years. Supported by the NIH, AHA, and by several large private foundations, his research has mainly been focused on Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Medical Education. Upon his return to the NIH, he had developed a stress radionuclide cineangiography, an achievement which had transformed the practice of cardiology, by enabling the first non-invasive assessment of cardiac function with exercise. The development has allowed the unmasking of previously in apparent cardiac disabilities and their severity. Dr. Borer has performed clinical service, teaching, and research, the latter currently and primarily focusing on developing the prognosticators for valve diseases and assessing the effects of heart rate modification on clinical outcomes, with trials in coronary artery disease and heart failure.
Dr. Borer earned an exceptional education from Cornell University Medical College where he earned his medical degree. He went on to complete his residencies in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Later he went on to complete his fellowships where he served as a Chief Resident at the following locations, Cardiology Branch at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, in Bethesda, Maryland, GlorneyRaisbeck Fellow in the Medical Sciences, and the Senior Fullbright-Hays Scholar, Guy’s Hospital, University of London.
In recognition of his excellence in the healthcare industry, Dr. Borer has received several awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Heart Valve Society of America, Society of Heart Valve Disease of Europe(2014) and he has been selected as one of three Legends of Cardiology at the 10th Annual Complex Catheter-based Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference in 2014. Dr. Borer has also published almost 500 full-length scientific papers and seven books. He also donates to museums in New York City and other various cultural organizations.
When Dr. Borer isn’t practicing medicine, he enjoys visiting a museum once a week, or trying to attend the ballet or opera at least once a month. He also enjoys fitness and live theatre.
