Liz Sanderson is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in field of Philanthropy as a result of her role as the Founder of The Farrington Foundation, an organization dedicated to the creation and preservation of open spaces that open the minds of all ages to unlimited opportunities in the Great American Outdoors.
Established in December 2005, Farrington Foundation’s initial conservation education mission is still focused on the same core mission statement with a new emphasis since 2010 on promoting conservation education and empowering youth involvement in outdoor videography and storytelling in various multi-media formats.
The original Farrington family business was located in rural Wisconsin and began in 1898 when a farmer and innovator, Jesse Farrington of Rio, Wisconsin hooked up rural telephone service and formed Peoples Telephone Cooperative. This company then became Peoples Telephone Company, and grew into PECOCO, Inc., which remained locally based in Rio and Randolph, Wisconsin from 1898 until the company was sold in 1997. After 1997, Liz, a great granddaughter of Jesse Farrington, wanted to find a way to give back to her conservation heritage from the rural communication, education and conservation organizations she was influenced by since her childhood in Wisconsin. She remembers very fondly the many times that she visited the nearby Aldo Leopold “Sand County” river bottom land and all of her experiences planting trees every year through conservation projects. Liz brings over 25 years of entrepreneurial board experience to her current position and specializes in development and implementation of plans for youth involvement in conservation. In addition, Liz works in the areas of multicultural and multimedia conservation education and training projects; philanthropy; public speaking; strategic planning; as well as film and oral history.
Throughout her educational career, Liz earned a Doctor of Law (JD) from Pepperdine University School of Law and also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History, Philosophy, and German from Colorado College. Prior to establishing the Farrington Foundation, Liz served on the Boards of the Seattle Group Theatre; The Research Department; Seraph Capital Forum; People’s Telecommunications; National Cable Television Cooperative; National Cable Television Center; and The Outdoor Channel.
