Derald W. Peters, RPh, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Achiever in the field of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacist at Diplomat Castia Rx.
Boasting over 50 years of service to the healthcare sector, Mr. Peters has been working as a staff pharmacist at Diplomat Castia Rx for the past 2 years. Mr. Peters finds pharmacy to be an extremely rewarding profession, veering off of his medical school track early in life upon the realization that his true calling was in pharmacy.
Possessing a vast range of pharmaceutical expertise including professional, diligence, compounding, and working directly with patients, Mr. Peters’ dedication to his patients is unmatched. Mr. Peters credits his success to his ability to empathize with his patients and his diligent work ethic.
Accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Venter for Pharmacy Practice Accreditation, Diplomat Castia Rx provides those they serve with tailored medical packages, constructed with attention and care to ensure proper use and treatment. Often offering their patients a unique support system to accompany the fill of a prescription, this dedicated organization cares for their patients beyond their foremost responsibility of providing medication.
Beginning his education at South Dakota State University, Mr. Peters earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1970. He began working in the pharmacy industry immediately upon graduation, becoming a Certified Diabetes Educator later in life to better serve his patients. In his free time, Mr. Peters utilizes this certification by offering continuing education to others interested in learning about diabetes management and treatment.
In recognition of his contribution to the field of Pharmacy, Mr. Peters has been awarded the “Outstanding Pharmacist of the Year” award for the Omaha District of Walgreens two years in a row as well as “Top 100 Pharmacists” in 2018 by the American Health Council.
After Mr. Peters retired from his 41 year career from Walgreens, he got involved with a number of volunteer avenues. He had more time to become involved with his church, St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. He is the past vice president of the parish council, a member of the funeral lunch committee, and affiliated with several other church groups. Mr. Peters is a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and is active in all their charitable projects. As his charitable passion, Mr. Peters is a patient visitor two days a week at Creighton University Archbishop Bergan Mercy Hospital, a level one trauma center, in Omaha, NE. Mr. Peters visits patients as a non-chaplain visitor, just knocks on doors as he says. Patients are very receptive of someone to visit with them especially when they have no family that lives near. Mr. Peters also frequently has medical students shadow him on visits to allow them to experience how to visit a patient for the first time. He also has mentored other volunteers on the process of visiting patients.
Mr. Peters is a member of the Patient Advisory Board and a member of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Board at Creighton University Archbishop Bergan Mercy Hospital. Mr. Peters is the president of the Walgreen Alumni Association for the Omaha and Lincoln NE districts which keeps him in contact with many of his former colleagues.
Being very active since retirement, Mr. Peters says being vigorous is what keeps him getting up every morning. He and his wife Susan, also a retired Walgreen Pharmacist, have been married for 46 years and have three grown and married sons and have 7 grandchildren. He and his wife do extensive traveling, visiting their family and friends throughout the country and occasionally traveling abroad. Mr. Peters says that, “life has been good to us since retirement, and we thank God for that.”
Mr. Peters dedicates this recognition in loving memory of his father, James Peters.
