Charles Blanchard Millham, Ph.D., is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever for his outstanding contributions in the fields of Mathematics and Education in acknowledgment for his role at Washington State University.
Retired since 2001, Dr. Millham has led an impressive career for nearly 40 years as a renowned mathematics educator and devoted 35 years to Washington State University. He began his tenure at the university as an assistant professor of mathematics in 1966, and subsequently attained the role of associate professor and full professor by 1974, acting in the latter role until his retirement in 2001. During his time at Washington State, he was also the chairman of environmental science and regional planning for two years, as well as a professional consultant, for many years. Dr. Millham also served two terms as acting chairman of computer science and sat on numerous campus-wide and departmental committees. In 1962, he was also an instructor of mathematics at Iowa State University, where he also served as an assistant professor for two years.
An academic scholar, Dr. Millham completed undergraduate coursework at Carleton College from 1954 to 1956. He then transferred to Iowa State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in foreign trade, a Master of Science in mathematics, and a Ph.D. in economics in 1958, 1961, and 1962. Additionally, he spent a year in Jordan in a Fulbright program.
To remain abreast of industry developments, Dr. Millham maintained active memberships with several professional organizations. He was a member of the Association of Research Professors of Washington, for which he was a founding member and past president, the Association for Computing Machinery, and a past member of the American Economic Association, the Operations Research Society, past and charter member of the Mathematical Programming Society, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
Throughout his acclaimed career in academia, Dr. Millham has contributed many articles to professional journals, newspapers, grant reports, and chapters to books.
In recognition of his professional accomplishments, Dr. Millham has garnered several accolades and honors. The recipient of a Citation Award from the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan and a Fulbright Grant for the University of Jordan in Amman, he is the namesake of the Charles B. Millham Endowed Scholarship in Mathematics, which is offered through the department of mathematics at Washington State. Dr. Millham is exceptionally proud that two of his former students have funded and endowed the scholarship.
Dr. Millham is married to Bonnie May Miller and has one child Michael Millham and three step-children Stacey Dayley, Orion Cassetto, Angela Sperandio (deceased), and 4 step-grandchildren.
